Maryland School having been passing out contraceptive

In Maryland school based clinics have been dispensing contraceptives for the past two years. None of the parents have been complaining. 500,000 woman have Norplants. There have been 5,000 free Norplant insertions. Provided by donations from companies. At a high school named Oak Ridge there was an article about birth control and tattoo. 1,800 copies of the school newspaper were taken away because it had stories about birth control and tattoos. The article listed success rates for different methods also said that the were available from doctors and local health department. 3 million women in the country use some kind of birth control pill. Some schools have offered birth control packs for $7 now they jumped up to $40-$50.
Some parents are against giving out birth control in schools and said that they would deal with it themselves. On the other side there are parents who want it to be easier to get birth control by selling/giving it out in school.

Portland Maine

School health center in Portland Maine is making birth control pills available to girls as young as 11. The name of the school is Kings Middle School. Ever since 2000 this middle school has had a full range of contraception available, like birth control pills, patches, and condoms. The girls range from 11 to 13. 3 of the middle schools in this area have reported 17 pregnancies during the last 4 years. This statistic did not count miscarriages or terminated pregnancies that were reported by the school nurse.

Some parents think that this is wrong because in the birth control pill there are two major hormones. (Progesterone and Estrogen) There is always a risk of cancer. 5 out of the 510 students would have qualified for the birth control under the program last year.

Before getting birth control pill you must go through a physical examine by a physician or nurse practitioner. Then you must have your parents sign a permission slip.

In 2004-2005 King middle school had three pregnancy and in 2006-2007 they had seven pregnancy.

I read an article about Baltimore School Clinics that offer Birth control. The schools are putting together plans to discuss the benefits of Norplant in the family-life classes. This is called Norplant. This is surgical implanted just under the skin on the underside of a woman's upper arm. It consists of six matchstick sized capsules. They last for up to five years. During these five years they release contraceptive synthetic hormone (progestin). When the capsules are removed fertility is restored.
One out of ten girls form the ages of 15-17 got pregnant in the year 1990. This procedure has helped the girls. Norplant does not protect ask AIDS or any other sexually disease. The capsules cost $365. The doctors charge $150 to $500 for the surgery.
The first schools clinic to offer Norplant was Laurene Taquin. This is a public school for girls who are pregnant or have had babies.

brith control

Should birth control be given out in schools. Some parents are opposing it and saying that they would deal with it themselves. All the schools are trying to do is prevent teenage pregnancy. My midterm research paper is going to be about how schools are offering girls birth control. I am also going to look at the parents opinion on this and would the school pay for it or the person that is getting it. I have done research and the girl that is getting birth control would have to pay the school for it.

Public VS. Private Schools

Both public and catholic schools are similar and different at the same time. Both of them have a range from grammar to college schools. Many kids of all different religions are in each. Also the same time frame. There are also many differences like wearing a uniform, praying, stricter rules. At a catholic school the sports are normal not as skilled as the public schools. I think that is because the public has more kids. I am writing about these to different schools because I have been in both and I am going to compare them.

New York Times Articles

These two articles are very similar. They both compare to different things. We learned about two different types of writing a comparison essay. The block method and the flip flop method. The block is talk about one topic and then the other, then the flip flop method was to switch back and forth between each topics. The brothers compare their similarities and differences. The same with the SUV essay. The SUV essay I thought was the block method. It talk about one thing in a big paragraph and then the other topic. The brothers was a little harder to follow. I wasn't sure what method it was.

Cell Phone Blockers

Cell phone blockers are coming to the United States, even though they are illegal. A person named Kumaar Thakkar from India ships them to the United States. People have invented a machine that cuts off peoples cell phone conversations in a 30 foot radius. They are called cell phone jammers. Verizon spends almost 6.5 billion a year to keep up there networks. It is very hard to detect these jammers. The price of the jammer is 200 dollars. This information is from an article called Devices Enforce Silence of Cellphones, Illegally.
I think these jammers shouldn't be allowed because someone can be on the phone with a very important call. For example someones family member can be very sick and the hospital need to get in touch with there family. If a person with a jammer is next to them or even near them then they would get cut off.

Blog Info

Making a blog is personal, you can write what ever you feel like telling other people. Because you write your own thoughts, people don't tend to put very personal stories up.Changing the color or back round to your own choice makes it a little more entertaining. You communicate with people that are on/ look at your blog. Get information from other people and you can ask questions about anything. Posting information that can help other people. Many people add pictures to their blogs to make it more appealing. Making people want to come to their blogs. Pictures about what they are talking about or the question they want to know. Mostly teenagers have blogs because they talk to friends and they have pictures with there friends to show each other. Reading other peoples blogs gave me some ideas on what to put in my own blog. Putting different colors and different fonts in to make it your own touch is always fun. You can get different information that you can use for school. Like news or sport games coverage.
