Portland Maine

School health center in Portland Maine is making birth control pills available to girls as young as 11. The name of the school is Kings Middle School. Ever since 2000 this middle school has had a full range of contraception available, like birth control pills, patches, and condoms. The girls range from 11 to 13. 3 of the middle schools in this area have reported 17 pregnancies during the last 4 years. This statistic did not count miscarriages or terminated pregnancies that were reported by the school nurse.

Some parents think that this is wrong because in the birth control pill there are two major hormones. (Progesterone and Estrogen) There is always a risk of cancer. 5 out of the 510 students would have qualified for the birth control under the program last year.

Before getting birth control pill you must go through a physical examine by a physician or nurse practitioner. Then you must have your parents sign a permission slip.

In 2004-2005 King middle school had three pregnancy and in 2006-2007 they had seven pregnancy.

Jillian: I like how you point out important ideas you gleaned from the reading. To help you prepare to write you paper, you should start to think about just what information you will use and how. Will some of this be used in the introduction as a shocking statistic or mostly in the body of the essay to support your ideas? Use this blog to keep track of what you research.

Also, clean up the previous blog entry so the hyperlinks are better integrated into your writing.
